Panthers lost to Vikings

28.3.2011 Sunday 27th March 2011, Slavia Prague Athletic Stadium

First home game of the season wasn’t lucky for Panthers. Like a year ago, Panthers offense wasn’t able to score a single TD against very well playing Vikings defense and lost 47:0 in 2nd round of Austrian football league – AFL.

Last weekend Vikings made a big win in Salzburg 65-7, while scored 41points in 1st q.

Also at Prague Vikings they scored quickly. Vikings opened the score from their first drive, by ex-NFL RB Tony Hunt and added another points in a while by long pass to another American, WR Chauncey Calhoun.

Panthers’ offense tried to score in 2nd Q, but Gabor Sviatko missed a field goal. Vikings didn’t have problems to move the ball, especially by air and scored another TD before half time by WR Chauncey Calhoun. Score was 21:0 for Vikings in half time.

Vikings QB Christoph Gross threw another TD pass after break, this time to Laurinho Walch. Panthers coach Steve Cash tried to answer by replacing QB, but even Jake Shrum wasn’t able to make things happen, whereas Tony Hunt scored another TD. Panthers QB McManus returned to the game, but fumbled the ball...

Panthers will play in Vienna next weekend against Danube Dragons within 1st round of EFL.

Coach Steve Cash said after the game:

„ Opponent was highly disciplined and very well coached. We had troubles with Vikings speed. We did a lot of mistakes, often in important situations, together with many penalties. We have to improve mentally. Next weekend we’ll face Danube Dragons, and it will be a tough game too...“

Prague Panthers – Raiffeisen Vikings 0:47 (0:14, 0:7, 0:12, 0:14)
